The Neo1973 is the first phone designed to run OpenMoko. It is manufactured by FIC who instigated the OpenMoko project.

If you just received a Neo1973 here are some suggestions for getting started.

Phase 0 (GTA01Bv3)

  • Phase 0: 36 developers have received their devices. [1]

Phase 1 (GTA01Bv4)

400 Phase 1 devices are ready, and 600 more will be ready during the next week. (Around 5th July)

The Neo Base will cost $300, the Neo Advanced will cost $450.

  • Faster CPU - S3C2442/400
  • WiFi: Atheros AR6K (see also [2])
    • Above from [3] and other sources
  • There will be no changes in the housing. [4]

There will be a discount for those that bought Phase 1 device. More info will be available before we start selling phase 1 phones. [5] [6]

Phase 2 (GTA02)

  • Originally estimated September, 2007 Mass Market Sale. [7]
    • Probably same hardware as Phase 1+, software is updated.
    • Online sales will continue.
    • We may also be available in a retail stores and from selected carriers around the world. [8]
    • At this point, we hope your Mom and Dad will want to buy a Neo1973, too.
  • The 2nd generation OpenMoko device will be introduced at this time. We have something special in the works, but again, you will help shape this device.
